Almost every "best time to post on Reddit" article gives you an hour and no reasoning. This article works out the best hour from where Reddit's users live, how much each region is worth, how Reddit's ranking punishes a slow start, and the fact that the United States and the United Kingdom share only about four good hours a day. The quick answer: post Tuesday to Thursday. If you need to break into a busy subreddit, post at 7 to 9 AM US Eastern, when the fewest other new posts are arriving and Britain is at lunch. If reaching the most US and UK readers at once matters more, post at 12 to 2 PM US Eastern, which is 5 to 7 PM in London.
1 PM Eastern is the single best US-plus-UK hour of the day. 1 PM Eastern is the only hour where roughly three quarters of the American audience and nearly nine tenths of the British audience are active at the same moment.

How this is calculated. Region shares come from published 2026 Reddit traffic estimates, with the American share split across its four time zones by population. The activity curve is a typical waking pattern by local hour, not measured Reddit data, so treat the exact percentages as indicative. "New-queue crowding" counts only people posting from English-first countries. "Optimise for both" scores each hour on whichever country, the US or the UK, has fewer people awake. Daylight saving is already accounted for.
Post Tuesday to Thursday, 7 to 9 AM or 12 to 2 PM Eastern
There is no single best hour to post on Reddit, because breaking into a busy subreddit and reaching the biggest audience need different hours.
- Breaking into a competitive subreddit: 7 to 9 AM US Eastern. Fewer Americans are submitting posts, while Britain and Western Europe are at lunch and supply the first votes.
- Maximum simultaneous audience: 12 to 2 PM US Eastern. All four American time zones are in working hours and the British evening has not started winding down.
- Pure US reach, nothing else: 6 to 9 PM US Eastern. At that hour Britain is asleep, and the queue of new posts is also at its most crowded.
- The day you post on Reddit matters less than the hour. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the reliable days.
- None of this beats knowing your own subreddit. Finding your own subreddit's best posting hour takes about ten minutes.
Reddit ranking is a velocity race settled in three hours
On Reddit a good post at a bad time usually never finds its audience.
- Early votes count for vastly more than later ones. In Reddit's Hot ranking, the first ten upvotes move a post about as much as the next hundred.
- In Reddit's published Hot ranking formula, a post needs ten times as many upvotes to keep its place against a post submitted 12.5 hours later, so most posts have won or lost their audience inside three hours.
- Every subreddit has an unwritten number of early upvotes a post needs to reach the top. In a community where top posts average around 500 upvotes, roughly 30 to 50 upvotes in the first hour is the difference between reaching the subreddit's front page and being seen by almost nobody.
- Posting during a subreddit's peak audience hours is not a small optimisation on Reddit, it is decisive. A post made while the subreddit's readers are awake collects its first upvotes sooner, and those early upvotes decide its ranking.
On Facebook a post at a bad hour is only slower to find its audience. On Reddit a post at a bad hour is invisible.

Half of Reddit is American and a US reader is worth four times more
Reddit is far more American than most social platforms, and Reddit's revenue is more concentrated in the US still.
- The United States is roughly half of all Reddit traffic. Estimates of the US share of Reddit traffic cluster between about 46% and 52%.
- The United Kingdom and Canada are the joint second tier, at around 6 to 7% of Reddit traffic each. British and Canadian readers are English-first, so they read the same post as Americans without translation.
- Reddit's revenue split between the US and other countries is far more lopsided than its user split. In the first half of 2026 Reddit reported about $1.16 billion of US revenue against roughly $305 million international, so the US supplied about 79% of Reddit's revenue from about half of its users.
- A US Reddit user is worth roughly four times an international one.
- Reddit had about 127 million daily active users in early 2026.
Pick a Reddit posting hour for the American audience first, and use the British audience as the tie-breaker between otherwise similar hours.
Chasing California costs you Europe and most of America
The common mistake is hunting for one hour when every American is awake. The hour when every American is awake is late enough to lose your European audience.
- The US Eastern and Central time zones hold three quarters of the American Reddit audience. Roughly 47% of the American Reddit audience sits in Eastern, 29% in Central, 7% in Mountain and 17% in Pacific.
- A good posting hour for US Eastern time also suits US Central time. Eastern and Central time are one hour apart, so any window that works in New York works in Chicago.
- Waiting for the US Pacific time zone pushes a post three hours later. Moving a post from 1 PM to 4 PM Eastern moves London from 6 PM to 9 PM, when British engagement starts falling fast.
- Posting later to catch California loses all of the British and European audience. The midday Eastern window already catches the West Coast at 9 to 11 in the morning.
- A genuinely West Coast subreddit is the exception to posting at midday Eastern. Tech, startup and city-specific communities skew Pacific, so post later there.
The US and the UK share only about four good hours a day
The five hours between US Eastern time and UK time sound small until you compare when each country's Reddit users are awake.
- Before 8 AM Eastern, most of the American Reddit audience is not yet active. At 6 AM Eastern only about 12% of the US audience is active, while Britain is at 74%.
- From 8 to 11 AM Eastern the active American Reddit audience is climbing. The share of Americans active climbs from roughly 37% to 69% while Britain holds between 74% and 80%.
- 12 to 4 PM Eastern is when the US and UK Reddit audiences peak together. The US and the UK both have roughly 76% or more of their audience active from 12 to 4 PM Eastern.
- 1 PM Eastern is the single best hour to reach the US and the UK together. Around 78% of the American audience and 88% of the British audience are active simultaneously.
- After 5 PM Eastern, the active British Reddit audience falls fast. By 8 PM Eastern, when America peaks at about 91%, Britain is at 6%.
1 PM Eastern reaches roughly four fifths of both the US and UK audiences. 8 PM Eastern reaches the American audience at its peak, but almost none of the British.

A small audience in an empty queue beats a big one in a crowd
Audience numbers say the best time to post on Reddit is midday Eastern. Most experienced Reddit posters say early morning. Both answers are right, for different goals.
- A subreddit's New queue, which lists posts newest first, is where every Reddit post starts. How long your post stays visible in the New queue depends on how many other posts arrive after yours.
- The number of posts submitted to Reddit rises and falls with American waking hours. The American afternoon and evening bring the most readers and the most competing posts at the same time.
- Early morning Eastern catches European readers with almost no US competition. American posters are not yet at their desks while European readers are at lunch.
- A post in a subreddit whose top posts average about 500 upvotes needs only 30 to 50 in its first hour, so halving the competing posts matters. In a mid-sized subreddit, halving the number of competing posts can matter more than doubling the audience.
- Whether to post in the early morning or at midday Eastern depends on the subreddit's size. In a large, fast community, post early. In a small or slow community there is no queue pressure, so post for reach.

Tuesday to Thursday is reliable and the weekend has its own rules
The day you choose matters less than the hour, but choosing the right day costs nothing.
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are the dependable days. Aggregated studies of Reddit posting times keep finding Monday to Thursday mornings best, with the midweek days strongest.
- Monday on Reddit carries a weekend backlog, so competition is heaviest.
- Friday afternoon is the worst weekday slot to post on Reddit. Reddit readers' attention drops from Friday midday, and a Friday post has to survive into the weekend.
- Reddit weekends are quieter, with usable slots on Saturday from about 10 AM to noon and on Sunday from about noon to 2 PM.
- Fewer posts are submitted to Reddit at the weekend, so a good post gets enough early upvotes to reach the top more easily. The weekend is a worse time for a mediocre post and a decent time for a strong one.
Your own subreddit clock beats all of this, and takes ten minutes
Reddit is not one audience. A British football subreddit and a Silicon Valley startup subreddit have almost nothing in common, so the platform average is a poor guide for either.
- Sort your own subreddit by Top of the past month. Note the submission time of ten or fifteen of the highest-scoring posts and look for the hour they cluster around.
- Convert every post's submission time to one time zone before you compare. Reddit shows relative ages, so write down the absolute times.
- Check the spelling and flags in a subreddit's comments to find where its members live. Spelling, currency and the sporting events people mention show the community's real geographic centre.
- A global subreddit often shows two or three activity peaks across the day. Any of those peaks works, so pick the one that suits your own schedule.
- Test two posting hours across several weeks, changing only the hour. Changing the hour and the format together tells you nothing about either.

- UK posters should aim for 5 to 7 PM local, or noon to 2 PM local for the fewest competing new posts.
- US East Coast posters should aim for 1 PM, or 8 AM for the fewest competing new posts. Avoid your own evening unless the subreddit is explicitly American.
- US West Coast posters should aim for 10 AM local, or schedule a post for 5 AM local.
- Australian posters have to schedule, because the best US and UK hours fall overnight in Australia. The hours that suit both US and UK readers are midnight to 2 AM in Perth and 2 to 4 AM in Sydney. The hours with the fewest competing posts, 7 to 9 PM in Perth and 9 to 11 PM in Sydney, are the ones an Australian can stay awake for.
- Wherever you live, be present for the first hour after posting to Reddit. Answering the first few comments quickly is worth more than moving your post by an hour.
